Sessions are an hour and they are normally held every week, but there is an open discussion around this, if you would prefer fortnightly for example.
This varies on each individual, some may want a couple of sessions, others may want to continue over a period of time.
There is no time limit. You are free to stop at any point, although I do recommend, we have a planned end session.
Sessions are absolutely confidential. The only exception to this would be if I felt that you or someone else was at risk of harm.
I have a supervisor who works with me to ensure my work is ethical & effective.
I do not disclose any identifying details with them about the clients I work with.
In the first session, we will look at the counselling agreement and you can ask me anything about it. I may ask you what you feel you need support with. We might talk about anything that you have already shared with me. You can ask me anything about the counselling process and what your thoughts and feelings are around it.
We may talk about feelings that are arising for you in that moment.
We go at your pace and what feels right for you. I may ask you a few questions around your general wellbeing.
If that happens, I will check with you around the feelings you’re feeling at that given time. This can often shift things to start talking.
I will not just sit there in silence and make you feel uncomfortable. I will not leave you floundering.
Changing your mind about counselling after you’ve started is always your choice. Along the way we will review our work together; this is a collaborative relationship. If you then decide you want to end the work, then that is fine.
I would just ask you that you let me know if you decide you want to stop and then we can have a planned end session. Endings are an important part of the counselling work.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, thoughts or worries you might have. I'm here to help.
